Yeah Two Holidays!

Being a nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and being a nurse in the hospital setting for nearly 20 years hasn't allowed me many holidays off and this year I hit the jackpot. Not only to I have Thanksgiving off, but yesterday, my Supe called me at home and made a deal and I ended up with both X-mas eve and X-mas day off. Of course I'll have to work the three 12 hour nights before X-mas eve, but that's ok. I'll be shot on the eve's morning but I'll get up in the afternoon and become a human again. And this way I'll be fresh for X-mas day! Sometimes, it's the Holiday shuffle I hate most about being a nurse.

Says you....I work in pediatrics. They bank on us only wanting to care for children. When I look at what I started at 17 years ago and compare it to now, I'm about $5 ahort of having doubled my wage. That's in almost two decades. Bad!People get payed better in adult hospitals. I've had alot of friends move to adults for the money. I can't do it, though. If we do overtime above our FTE, it's only payed time and a quarter until you hit 40 hours for that week. It's a sign of the times I'm afraid.

I remember those days at the hospital. Rotating holiday schedules. Have a great holiday with your family.

Thanks all, I enjoyed Thankgiving. I'm sure Christmas will be great too. It was nice having my daughter home from college. She really missed being home and we did alot of running around X-mas shopping. While she was here, her and Steve played computer games together which I found very amuzing to observe.
